A Tasty Discovery

The strangest thing happened today. I heard a noise in the driveway; when I went with The Lady to investigate, we found a package propped against the front door. The package smelled absolutely yummy, not like most of the packages we find. The Lady opened it, and inside there were several bags filled with goodies: ginger-flavored teddy bears, chew sticks, animal-shaped cookies, and little yummy fishes. What an exciting revelation! I am so lucky to live in a world where goodies land at my front door and teddy bears taste like ginger.

Yum.

A Birthday Poodle

Today's my birthday, my very first birthday, and I'm totally excited to be entering the dog-lick-dog world of adults! Well, kind of, anyway. Technically, a standard poodle such as myself is not fully grown until he's a year and a half. But I still feel that today is a very meaningful moment for me, and that now I should earn a bit more respect from those who've called me a mere puppy for the past year. Yep, I deserve some r-e-s-p-e-c-t, folks.

I didn't have the big blow-out shindig that I asked for (The Lady seems to have some difficulty understanding what's expected of her), but I did get a big birthday hug and a new chewy bone. I'll forgive her her lack of party-planning skills; she seems to have a lot going on these days. I celebrated my arrival into dogdom by squeaking the purple monkey all day. The Lady throws the purple monkey for me when I plop him on her lap, although her last throw sent the purple monkey behind the bedroom door, and The Lady has not offered to retrieve him yet. So, for the moment, the squeaking has had to come to an end. Such is life.

My Pal, Harley

This is my best bud, Harley. He tells me he's the crown prince of Georgia, but I think he's really a Shih-Tzu. He's kinda like a dust mop and kinda like a tiny lion. Anyway, he's my pal and we always find interesting things to do when he comes to visit. His chauffeur is named Paul and owns a tile company called Stone Horse Tile. He's been making a lot of noise around the house lately. But I don't mind because it means Harley's here, and that's a good thing.
Harley's kind of in a funk today because it's raining.

Me and my best friend, Harley, heading off to an adventure.

I hope you all have best buds that help you find the smelly things in life, too.

A snooty kiss-kiss to you all,

The Poodle's Big Adventure

Okay, I swear when he left the door open, I thought it was for me. I found out later that it wasn't. Anyway, I was polite on leaving (I said "Thank you" to the nice man and everything), and I headed out to investigate things. I figured that was what I was supposed to do: check out everything in my territory and make sure things were as they're supposed to be. I visited all the pups in the neighborhood and told them they'd better keep their noses to the ground; I visited the cows in the farmer's fields and told them they need to take a bath (the farmer has done a terrible job of picking up their poop; it's everywhere); I went through the creek just to make sure there was nothing hiding in there. I did make sure to stay a good distance away from the flappy flag (that thing just gives me the willies). I did good deeds all over the neighborhood. The world was safe because of me.

Then The Lady came home. She evidently didn't think I'd done such a good job. She turned up her nose at the wonderful scent of the mud from the creek (she has no taste where odors are concerned). She made me stand on the patio while she turned a hose on me. The water was cold and washed off all my souvenirs of the day. I was aghast at what she'd done, but she seemed pleased with herself. She rubbed me all over with a towel and made me go inside. I lay at her feet, feeling very unappreciated, while she read a book.

I have to say that I'd probably do it all over again, though, if I had the chance. Some things are just worth the consequences.

The Poodle Has Left the Building

Whee! It's spring and everything is blooming and chirping and becoming green! This is such an exciting development; I was so worried that the world would just continue to be drab and boring forever (and god knows I hate drab and boring). The Lady and I have been taking walks around the neighborhood every day this week. I've seen so many new things; a few of them scared me (like the "Happy Easter" flag that was whipping in the wind; I'm convinced that thing's evil, but The Lady says it's just a silly decoration). Mostly, I've just been fascinated by all the newness. It's almost as though the world is waking up from a long sleep. Whee! I wonder how long this spring thing is going to last. It could last forever as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm. Daffodils smell really nice. Kinda like me.

Did you see something move over there?

Ahh... Life is good.

I hope you're all enjoying spring as much as I am.

Sunny, Yet Snooty

I admit it. I'm a snooty poodle. I really didn't realize there was any other kind, but The Lady says there must be humble poodles somewhere on this earth. Well, good luck finding 'em, I say. All the ones I've met have been just like me. Or snootier.

Not that being snooty is a bad thing, necessarily. It's just a different perspective on the world. I plan to share my perspective on this blog so that everyone can see what I mean.

I guess a bit of an introduction is in order (we just have to introduce ourselves these days, ladies, since no one's stepping up to do it for us): My name's Sundance's Little Miss Sunshine, but you can call me Sunny. I was born at Sundance Poodles in Stockbridge, Georgia. At the moment, I live in Hiram, Georgia with The Lady. I've been with her since I was 10 weeks old, and I'm 10 months old now. I'm a cream standard poodle (I believe only an apricot poodle is snootier).

Here's a picture of me when I was a baby (right after I moved in with The Lady, I think).

The Lady is nice enough; she prepares my food the way I like it and in exchange, I let her sleep on the bed with me. She also fills the position of chauffeur when I need to go somewhere.

Anyway, now that I'm getting into my adolescence, I thought it was time I exercised my voice a little more (barking only carries so far, after all). I hope that my blog will help carry my voice out into the world a little farther, and I hope there are readers who will find my perspective worth reading about.

A snooty kiss-kiss to you all,

Sunny
